How Can I Be Saved?
The most important question you will ever answer is this:
Where will you spend eternity?
The Bible tells us plainly how we can know that our sins are forgiven and that we have eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is not found in being religious, joining a church, being baptized, or doing enough good works. It is found in Jesus Christ alone.
We Are All Sinners
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” — Romans 3:23
Every one of us has sinned against a holy God. No matter how good we may try to be, none of us can make ourselves righteous before Him.
Sin Has a Penalty
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
Our sin separates us from God and carries an eternal penalty. But God offers us something we could never earn for ourselves—the gift of eternal life.
Jesus Christ Paid the Price
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus lived without sin, died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day. He paid the price that we could never pay.
Salvation Is a Gift—not Something We Earn
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
You cannot earn salvation through good works, baptism, church membership, or trying to become a better person. Salvation is God's gift, received by repenting of your sins and placing your faith in Jesus Christ.
Call Upon the Lord
When the Philippian jailer asked,
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
the answer was simple:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...” — Acts 16:30–31
The Bible also promises:
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” — Romans 10:13
If you understand that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself, turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and trust Him alone to save you. Believe that He died for your sins and rose again, and call upon Him in faith.
There are no special words that save you. Salvation is not found in repeating a prayer—it is found in Jesus Christ. You can speak to Him from your heart, acknowledging your sin and asking Him to save you.
You Can Know
God does not want you to spend your life wondering whether you are saved.
“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” — 1 John 5:12
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life...” — 1 John 5:13
If you have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, eternal life rests upon His promise—not upon your feelings or your own goodness.
